HI all, ReactOS 0.2 has just been released. What is ReactOS? It''s an open-source operating system that aims to be compatible with Windows NT applications and drivers. To get an idea of what it looks like (and to see how much things have changed in the past year), check out the screenshots page. Version 0.2 features a lot of user-visible changes and GUI improvements, and now boots directly to the ReactOS Explorer, instead of a text console. It''s not usable as a desktop system yet, but it is slowly - very slowly - approaching that point. (The site''s under a bit of a load right now, so be patient with the links!)

I think the point is that if it''s compatible with Windows apps and drivers, it won''t have the problem that other OSes have when competing with Windows - namely, that nobody is developing for them. It instantly hooks the entire Windows user base (+80% of the market).

Think of it as an open-source rewriting of Windows, given the developer APIs that it needs to finish with. Ironically, it''s probably what we would have all ended up with if the DoJ hadn''t been told to go easier on MS in the first place.
