What if I wanted to do a 3d view of a scene in the HUD? In my case, I''m wanting to do a zoom-in effect, similar to what was implemented in Halo with its weapons, with the zoom taking up part of the screen while the rest of the view stays normal.

For picture-in-picture effects you can either:
- Render the sub picture to a texture, then use the texture when you draw the main image
- Or, use the viewport, scissor or stencil tests to restrict drawing to only a part of the screen, and render your subimage into it after the main image. glViewport is probably simplest, but that only gets you rectangular areas. Using stencil testing with the viewport allows you to get irregular areas.

Ah, so. Rock on, and by that I mean spiffy.

Thanks.
