I am having problems with tables in my html program. I am trying to make a webpage so I can continually update it with inserting a new table and placing text with in it. Everytime I add a table, it stretches other tables adjacent to it messing up my webpage. I am using dreamweaver. I found an alternative but I think it is cheating. I can us CSS to position tables exactly were I want. Is that the right way?

Well, first of all, I have to say, get something other than Dreamweaver. The only time I''ve ever used it was to just set up a template and just a drop and paste so I could quickly see what the main idea was going to be like. If you''re going to develop even somewhat seriously, I suggest you get a decent editor. This one is awesome. Even though it''s only the trial version and you get an annoying popup everytime you open it, it is unbelievable. As soon as I can afford it, I''ll pay them the money because they deserve it so much.

Now to address your real question. Tables, although they are very easy to slap on, if you have any css knowledge, use that. If possible, get rid of your tables or at least minimize their use. I know I''m a hypocrite but I''m working on it too. If you insist on sticking to tables, you might want to create tables within a table and everytime there''s a new table you want to insert, put it in a new <tr>.

There are a LOT good documents on how to stay away from tables (the good thing) and use CSS files and DIV tags. Stay standard! Happy htlming!

EDIT:
People get tables confused. Tables are NOT to make your website look different (columns and whatnot.) Tables are made to arrange data in a way so one can make sence of it. It is for aranging and displaying data and nothing more. If you are using tables to space things out or make columns, you are using them wrong.
