Does anybody have it? Would you be willing to upload it? Do you know where I can find it? I have a customer here who wants networking and they failed to think ahead and bring their OS CD! Is there anybody who can help? Cheers. Note: Win95B is not supported by MS anymore so it is all legal to trade

Hey, not to rain on a parade, but when did Unsupported become freeware?

We have old media at the office of pretty much each iteration of Windows since win3.1 and if you can show me where it says it is not piracy I can upload it in the morning

He says the customer already has it, and no one would want to pirate it anymore, so it''s at least moral, and possibly legal too.

A site called OldOS.org actually ran into some trouble with distributing unsupported, yet copyrighted software from Microsoft and some other companies without consent, so people do get busted for the sort of thing you''re asking of right now. Whether or not you think it''s immoral is sort of irrelevant, the fact remains that distributing software in a manner not authorized by its copyright holder (regardless if the software is obsolete or not) is a crime in the United States and other countries, and I was under the assumption that GDNet and other sites barred this type of activity for the explicit purpose of avoiding legal liability. That said, your customer should have been smart enough to hold onto his software or at least back it up. Microsoft isn''t responsible for him losing the disk, so it''s up to him to (legally) obtain a new copy.

Not sure about where you live, but not in the case of the United States, the juristiction which GDNet is under (as well as Microsoft, and I''m sure your nation would cooperate with US authorities). Like I said, this sort of thing is a liability to them as well, which is the primary reason asking for illegal software (or discussing any illegal activity) isn''t allowed.

What''s the matter with people going "doesn''t matter...illegal...I''ve got a stick up my ass"? If the customer already owns a license for the software, has NOT lost the CD and does NOT intend to share the software with anyone else, then what''s so bad about it?

iirc microsoft only released an oem version of 95B, never a retail version.

The reason GDNet doesn''t allow people to trade unlawfully distributed software (or discuss illegal activity in general) is because it can be held liable. That''s what I was getting at the whole time. If the above circumstances are true, the customer can simply retrieve his disk and come back, so I personally don''t see why he needs to download a pirated copy that could very well be incomplete or have who knows what on it. It has nothing to do with me having a "stick up my ass" as you so eloquently stated, it''s about GDNet''s liability and the overall uselessness of him needing to download a piece of software he apparently already has a working copy of in the first place. If he neglected to bring the disk, he can go back for it, instead of seeking out unlawful means of distribution and getting GDNet involved. Yeah, I''m being pedantic, but with this forum and most, the anti-warez sentiments are mostly statutory.

I''m having a really hard time seeing how GDNet could be held responsible - especially since MS has a snowball''s chance in hell to find out.

It doesn''t matter if they have zero chance of finding out. Win95B is still copyrighted material so I am closing this.
