I am going to learn C# and wanted to find a good book. I am more interested in GUI programming. Until now I have found the following: 1) Teach Yourself C# In 21 Days 2) Teach Yourself Visual C# .NET 2003 In 24 Hours 3) Beginning Visual C# As I said I am more interested in GUI programming thus a book that covers the language and the IDE would be great. Which of the above is the best and of course if you have a different to suggest then please do.

I''ve only owned one C#/.NET book and that''s Andrew Troelsen''s C# and the .NET Platform. For a kind of learn C# as well as GUI programming all in one type book, it wasn''t bad. The first six or so chapters talk about the C# language, then the rest covers the various parts of the .NET platform (chapters 8-11 specifically cover GUIs). And it isn''t a bad desktop reference book. Only complaint I''d probably have is that it doesn''t go extensively in depth on certain topics, but any extra info on a certain topic you might need can easily be looked up in the .NET SDK documentation.

If you can get your hands on Visual Studio .NET, then learning windows gui programming is a thing of the past. You can literally put together an entire gui by dragging and dropping windows forms controls. I routinely use VS .NET and C# to toss together little apps with GUIS for a multitude of purposes. Average development time is under 30 minutes. It allows windows frontend development with no programming required, which is exactly what I''ve always wanted.

Same as in every other topic about this *cough* I''m going with a leap of faith in Deitel & Deitel and am going to recommend their C#: How to Program. Their other books are excellent so I see no reason why this one would be any different. I''ve heard other people here recommending it as well and it has great reviews.

I found two books the one is the C# Primer Plus and the other the Windows Form Programming With C#. The problem is that the first is only about the language and the second only GUI. The book Beginning Visual C# seems to merge the two things. You know anything about the book?
