is there any program out there (preferably free) that when i type in a function it gives me the parameters or when i type in a namspace it gives my whats in it like namespace->things under it. I have Visual C++ 6.0. I know the compiler does it sometimes, but i need something that will do that all the time.
I don''t have to do nothing but live and die, everything else i choose to do- I don''t know, but my dad says it alot
no VC6 does NOT do it all the time, period, the compiler is too stupid to do it with even moderately complicated C++ code (I used this tool for 2 years).
Visual Studio 2003 is MANY MANY times better ...
There are also Borland C++ Builder X, Metworwerks Code Warrior, Code Wright, Visual Slick Edit.

Visual C++ is not a compiler, it''s an IDE -- integrated development environment. CL.exe is the compiler. For someone who used it for two years, it sounds really odd when you claim the ''compiler'' doesn''t have a good IntelliSense feature.

END RANT. So anyway, in what situations does it fail to work? Does it have a problem with templates or something? ~CGameProgrammer( );
It doesn''t have any problems, but i downloaded a new 3D engine and it uses alot of namespaces and the compiler doesn''t give me the members when i use the namespace so i wondered if anyone knew of any programs that did it.

You should definitely try Visual Assist - once you''ve used it you won''t want to code without it.
sorry CGP, should my response have been .. damn, I know cl.exe can handle the code cause it "compiles" properly, but for some reason the people at Microsoft must have made the front end "intellisense" feature use a different parser, or lexer, or symbol table system or SOMETHING ... so that the package that people buy to Visually Design, Run Wizards, Edit Code, Compile, Link, and Debug their programs (Visual C++) seems to be stupid when it comes to the Intellisense feature of the IDE that the original poster asked about.
And if you''ll look at my suggestions you''ll see I listed 2 Compiler / IDE systems, and 2 Non-Compiler / IDE systems (none of those systems are "editors" they all have all have the hooks to be full fledged IDEs).
I think the original poster had 100% understanding that when i said "compiler" what I really meant was the "tool" ... in a completely generic sense of the word ...
in fact, I think only you have a problem with it.

Hey I have Visual C++6. It used to always display the parameters etc. as mentioned here but one day it just stopped completely. Where can I turn this feature back on?
