[java] a sample 2D game engine design needed

I have never run across any but maybe what you need to do is sit down and figure our what kind a game you want to make and that usually determines how you would design your engine. 2d engines are pretty much a do it yourself thing anyway. Did you have some questions on something specific about your 2d engine design or are you just looking to find something with te hwork already done for you?
