Make the game in DBPro......much easier than pure DirectX and C++ programming. Trust me, I''ve done both.

I think you''re going to need to elaborate little furthr before you can expect any serious offers of help from people. Some thing like the following:

1) Produce a proper game specification, detailing your ideas for the game, how it works, what makes it different from other projects in the area. There are some articles here on Gamedev about writing a proposal for a game.

2) Some information about your background and role in the team. Have you written a game before? People giving thier time for free are going to want to know you have what it takes to see it through. They might want to see examples of previous things you''ve worked on.

3) More on how the process works. Yopu''ve asked for 5 programmers, why 5? You you have 5 specific roles in mind or did it just seems about right? And what are you going to do, you seem to have most roles covered by the rest of your team...

4) As I understand it MMORPG''s require quite a significant financial investment in terms of getting servers running, etc. You ought to of thought about how you''ll cover this.

There''s probably lot''s of other stuff. This isn''t meant to be discouraging, but the point is people aren''t going to want to work for you for free unless thier convinced the project could be a success. You need to give more detail to show you know what your doing!

Hope that helps,

David

You simply can''t. I''m not saying you can''t because of skill, (that''s also possible) I''m saying it because of copyright/licensing/trademark etc issues.

You don''t own Star Wars

Thanks for the advice guys, I've got a basic game concept, but it's not fully developed and put to paper. I have however that about your 4th sugestion before david, and I own my own business so setting up a game server will be no problem.

Oh, and This will be my first game development project, so that's why I need an exelent team. I have however made several c++ programs in linux before, so I'm not reatarded or anything.

yes, I can, I checked into it with lucas licenceing and they said as long as it's open source there was nothing they could do.

Thanks, To all.

I hope this doesn''t sound too negative, but a MMOPRG by definition requires massive bandwidth, and that doesn''t come cheap.
Peer to peer probably wouldn''t work so well because where is the world state going to be held for instance?
As what you are doing is no small project, you can''t think small time and make it up as you go along.
Appoligies if you already have a business plan, software architecture design, and George Lucas formal approval.

i own my own business, and i couldn''t afford to set up servers for an MMORPG. probably won''t be able to until i''m too rich to bother with it

you shouldn''t blatently lie; nobody is going to believe a thing you say now.

Does anyone ever wonder why the FAQ doesn''t add:

"Anyone wishing to start a project/company must present a portfolio of what they''ve done, along with detail that would aid prospects in the areas of required positions"

?

they should also add:

* all posters in the "help wanted" forum should have at least the slightest clue.

* you must read this FAQ, even though you don''t know that because you didn''t.

Don''t take this personally, but the fact that this is your first game development project is what make people run away.
What C++ programs () did you made?

Don''t tell people its your first game. Set up a web-site with a design document, and concept art. Explain what the game is about, and what type of payment you will offer. It doesn''t matter if this is your first game or not - what is important is your knowledge of the subject.

Saying you need an exelent team because this is your first game project is also a sign of newbieness. Why should you lead the team when you admit you know very little about game programming? Everyone else on the team has a game they''d like to make too. You''ve got to convince them you have the experties to help them finish YOUR game before anyone of decent talent will join.

Finally, Lucus Arts can and will sue you even if your project is open source. They''ve done it before, and nothing will stop them doing it again.

Lucas Arts is very supportive of amateur game developers. I don''t foresee there being any problem in licensing department as long as it is freeware. On the other hand, this is an extremely ambitious project. Not only are MMORPGs a big commitment, you will also have to meet a community''s expectations.

I wouldn¡¦t be surprised if there are others out there trying to pickup where many feel Star Wars galaxies has failed. Your best bet would be to try and round up some die hard star wars fans that share your vision. Otherwise it may be difficult to find people who will want to stay the course with a project that has no way to make any financial gain.

Now my word of creative advice ļ. If you do actually proceed with this project, I would go with a prequel like Knights of the old Republic. I thought the concept behind that game was far better then any of the other games or even movies in the franchise. A prequel storyline would also be easier to adapt if you some day decide to license it under another name.
