I''m trying to decide if this is legit or not. I have been doing some goggle searches for info but I was wondering if you kind people could provide some other links. How much effect do we have? What are the consequences? If we do have an effect how can we change it?

There needs to be more research done before we can say how much of an effect we have on the environment with regards to global warming. Until then, its hopeful speculation that we can control our destiny.

It''s probably not a good idea to ''decide'' if it''s legit or not until more research can show without a shadow of a doubt whether the hypotheses are correct or incorrect. Also, there is a political agenda behind both sides of the story so you will be hard pressed to find unbiased data and models for predictions on what will happen.

What are the consequences?

the possibility of a new ice age in 20 years or a bit more

Crap! I was hoping global warming would actually make it warmer here. If it doesn''t do that, what''s it good for in the first place?

Why don''t you look up Thomas Midgley? He pretty much screwed our world up beyond all hope. Oh well.. if it wasn''t him, someone else would have come along and done the same thing I suppose.

Anyway, I suggest you look into tetra-ethyl lead (has nothing to do with global warming, really, but is still a good topic) and more importantly chloro-fluorocarbon, or CFC''s, or freons, which I have read will not be banned from third-world countries until 2010 (originally developed in 1928.)

The lead thing still amazes me. It makes you wonder what toxicity we are exposed to today that hasn''t been uncovered yet.

So, in my opinion, global warming is very much legit. It, and many other things, seem to be the ultimate test for the strength of the human body. Considering that many of these toxic products will not go away for thousands, maybe millions of years (and ironically take less than a year to produce), I''d say we have a bit of a problem on our hands. Wait, not our hands, our childrens!

One thing I learned in a meteorology class I took is that the o-zone hole in the South Pole is shrinking. The ban on CFCs could be the reason for it. But there is possibility of a hole opening up in the North Pole. I heard this one or two years ago, so the data might be the same still.

This sounds suspicisously like a homework question.
Im guessing I spelled suspicisously wrong.

I dont have any sources right now, but whenever I read about the (potential) effects of global warming, it always surprises me when they talk about the temperature change. They say stuff like: "if the average global yearly temperature increases by 1/10 of a degree, then it would be an utter disaster. Ice caps will melt, low lying cities like new york will flood, 1000s of species will be come extinct...."
That sounds a little odd to me. I mean come on, its 1/10 of a degree!

Not totally related to global warming, but pollution in general.
My physical geology teacher once told me that even if everyone in the world stopped all forms of pollution 100% completely, and did so immediately, then all the pollution that is already in the air will still continue to react with the environment and everyone in the world will need to use gas masks to live in about 100 years. He didnt say what would happen if we didnt stop polluting.
