[java] layer in java

i am writing a quest that need to show a pic of the room in the main screen. but when the player come to some rooms that can connect to more than 1 rooms, then the main screen need to show more pics. e.g. if a corridor can go to 5 rooms. main screen should show... 1 pic of the corridor as the background 5 pics of the rooms so that player can click on it and go to the corresponding room. how can i do this? 5pics cover the 1 pic.
