I consider myself a seasoned C++ programmer and I''ll always use it for making games. I''ve always used the good ''ol Platform SDK for writing games and MFC for writting non-game windows applications. I''m wondering if I should make the switch from MFC to C# for writing windows applications? I also know Java really well and after looking at some C# code it looks really simple with both my C++ and Java experience. I guess what I want to know is if there is anyone out there whose been in my shoes that used MFC and migrated to C#? Is it worth switching to C#? Also- Is C# going to replace MFC? There''ll always be a place in my heart for MFC *sniff**sniff*

all threads with any a vs b or a or b always turn into a flamewar. its just a fact.

Is anyone else sick and tired of the flamebait? So? Try it and see for yourself......

I simply love c++, but started developing commercial applications in c# recently.

I''m not going to compare the two languages, but what I can say is that I''M TOTALLY HOOKED!

C# and the .NET framework in general, is pretty darn awesome!

Play with it a bit and then you decide.

I''ll never give up C++ though...

Der- I simply wasn''t asking for a flamewar and I''m sorry if you felt I was implying so. If I had known there was a subset of smacktards in the gamedev community I would''ve chosen the title of this post such that the words ''or'' or ''vs'' were non-existant.

Thanks a ton for the input Jaco vd Westhuizen! Much appreciated =)

C# is pretty much perfectly placed to replace MFC for the kind of thing you want to do, fast windows developement is kinda its thing, plus you can just plug C++ code into it to talk to say a 3d renderer (or even a 2d one i guess)

I''m not a C# fan, heck i dont know it (although getting along fine helping someone with problems with it, hehe) but i can see its uses here and will probably learn it to do the above myself (or get my friend who is learning it to do it and hook my engine in, heh)

Yeah, .Net is a lot better than MFC. I don''t think that we can have a flamewar about that If you want to do Windows apps, I don''t see a reason not to learn C#. It''s nice. There are so many advantages, that I wouldn''t know where to start.

If you want C++ vs C# discussions (which I don''t think you want, by your OP), then search the forum archives.

The only comparisons I'm willing to make are:

assert((.NET > MFC) && (C++ != C#) && "The world as we know it has ceased to exist!!!");

edit: oh, and this one:

assert((linux > windows) && "What are you, a time traveler from the past?");

and this one:

assert( girls == evil );
(because we all know that girls are time and money ( girls == time * money ) and that time is money ( girls == money * money ) and that money is the root of all evil ( money == sqrt( evil ) ) thus solving to ( girls == sqrt( evil ) * sqrt( evil ) ), or girls == evil).

I totally froget where I heard that one.
