Hello! What is really the basic definition of an API? Is there a tutorial out there regarding how to build and design a game API? An API isn''t simply function calls right?

API stands for Aplication Programming Interface - its an interface which someone can use to access all functionality of (lets say) your game engine without worying to know every detail about whats going under the hood. Most APIs hide their inner contents in dynamic (dll) or static (lib) libraries, and expose only their header files. You need decent knowledge in Object Oriented Programming to develop a professional quality API.

For a crash course try reading this: Programming With Abstract Interfaces, by Noel Llopis - "Game Programming Gems 2"
