Odd Playstation 2 Problem

Over the past month, I''ve noticed several occasions where what appears to be a glitch with my PS2, occurs. I was playing GTA: Vice City one day and all of a sudden I had no control over my character. The computer was walking him around, shooting randomly, etc. I reloaded the saved game and it never did it. I thought It may have been something with that game. Well, about 15 minutes ago, I put in Devil May Cry 2 and it did the same thing. While I was trying to run, my character kept stopping to swing his sword. At one point, he walked a straight line firing both handguns for about 20 seconds. I was walking across a platform and he jumped into the air and went into Devil mode. I never pushed any buttons besides the directional button on the D-pad. Is this problem occuring from within the PS2 and not the game? Has anyone else ever experienced this before?

Could be a bad connection in you controller, prolly right where the wire and pad meet. I had much the same problem with my mouse awhile ago. Unfortunatly, the cheaper alternative was to get another mouse :S

Actually, something weird happened to me today on the PC version of GTA: Vice City when I was in a potato truck (not quite a semi, not quite the version smaller than the semi) when it started to drive itself! I couldn''t control it or anything, and when I hopped out there was an NPC character already in the drivers seat.

Weird.

PS2''s suck by the way, that''s what you get for buying inferior hardware.

Nah, they''re a good system, just not that great on the specs - good games is what I mean by good system.

Sorry man...I had to. It was me or someone else...I can be helpful though!!! All my friends have PS2s and I have played them many times and they have never done anything like that to me. It could be a problem with your controller or something (maybe it''s sending signals when it shouldn''t?). Try switching controllers. Hope that helps.

HOOWAA! Thanks guys. I plugged in an old PS1 Dual Shock controller and it works great. No glitches (yet). I guess that PS2 is going bad. Well, it gave 2 years of loving service.

For an expensive electronic device, thats not really very long at all. I''d be rather pissed if, say, a new tv packed in after 2 years. The long and short of it is that Sony cuts numerous corners to manufacture ps2''s cheeply and quickly.

Eh? If changing the controller fixed the problem, then the controller was the point of failure and your PS2 is just fine.

The operation of electronic devices is fully deterministic, there are a fairly limited number of things that could cause the malfunction you''ve described. As mentioned, an error with the controller or connection is the most likely culprit.

Mine fucked up after 2 years. I had to pay £60 for a replacement.

Yes yes yes yes......I type WAY too fast and I leave words out sometimes. I meant to say that the PS2 CONTROLLER gave two years of service. Not the system. The system still kicks ass.
