Is there any japanese or japanese speaking person here, I need to know something about kanji. I''ve heard that there is 8000 marks in use, but 2000 has to be known by heart. Is it like I can choose whatever 2000 marks out of the 8000 or are there some certain kanjis that has to be learnt, and at the end is it so necesary to learn kanji if you know hiragana...Thanks!

No, you can''t "choose" what Kanji to learn. What gave you that
idea?

It''d be necessary to learn Kanji. Otherwise, you''d be stuck
reading elementary-level books which are written purely with
hiragana and katakana and/or furigana (pronounciation written
on top of Kanji characters).

Arigatô! no more living in doubt, but furigana should be used more often, well until I learn more kanji, Doh!! I'm off to the books store then...thanks again!
