using OPCODE in ODE for triangle mesh collisions

Hey all: I''ve been trying to get the TriangleCollisionMesh that ODE has built in working with my simulation. The Triangle Mesh stuff in ODE relies on OPCODE for the actual collision routines. So I build opcode, which creates the lib files in ode/OPCODE/Release and ode/OPCODE/Debug (depending on whether im doing debug or release configuration). All fine and good. Then i rebuild ode using : make configure make ode-lib Seems to build the ode lib corectly. I then copy the ODE lib and associated header files to my project. I can use the regular ODE stuff in my code, but as soon as I attempt to create a TriangleMesh object, I get linking errors for the TriangleMesh stuff. So its almost like ODE isnt including the OPCODE library...am I missing a step? Doesnt seem to work curiously yours, nekoflux

Ok, I figured out why it wasnt working, thought I''d pass it along.

The code in CVS is more up to date than the packaged archive on the ODE website. If you want to build opcode into ode, be sure to grab the code off of cvs or it wont work!

Also, if you want to use opcode, you need to compile it in floating point precision, double precision wont work with it.

Hope this helps somebody out there

Hi Sam:

You should download a graphical cvs client, provides a very simple way to grab code off a remote repository. I use smartcvs; I prefer it over wincvs for ease of use. You can download the free version at:
http://www.smartcvs.com

When you get it setup it will ask you to setup a repository.
the cvs string for the repository is:

:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/opende/

it will also ask you for a module name to checkout. the module name is:

ode

after doing that it should plop the current ode source from the cvs server onto your machine.

Hi,

I had the same experience as neko. My trimesh stuff doesn''t work (unresolved synmbols). So I followed his advice to get the latest sources from CVS and build the OPCODE. (I actually don''t know how to build it in a proper way. I just opened an empty static library project in msvc6 and add all the files in OPCODE including the ices files. And I just press F7 to build. I don''t even know how to compile in single floating point precision) So then I build ODE by a command line make. (I configured in the user.setting to include OPCODE). So everything seems fine and I can compile and link my code properly with trimesh function calls. However in runtime dTriMeshCreate always makes my program crashes. I''m pretty sure it''s not the problem with how I made the call. It crashes with the sample test_trimesh too. So anyone knows what is the reason?

just wanted to say thanks ... this was very informative, and saved me a couple of hours trying to figure out these weird linker errors
