This is the best place I can think of to ask this question.. Is there any kind of way with c++ to recognize Text in a computer game. Like for instance, is there a way for me to point to a specific location and get the text of that area? Any help given will be appreciated greatly.

Exactly how are you defining "location" and "area"?
"Game Programming" in an of itself does not exist. We learn to program and then use that knowledge to make games.

Umm, I think your question is too vague. Are you asking if it''s possible to parse text in C++? If so, then yes it''s possible. In pretty much every programming language you can parse text. If that doesn''t answer your question then you need to rephrase it.

if it is in a windows control (edit boxes and such), you can get a handle to it and then read the text from there.

if you mean right on screen (like the "bob shot fred" messages in FPS games) you''d have to use OCR or something.

I mean like on CounterStrike or maybe WarCraftIII, I want to give a location on the screen to check for text. So I guesse OCR is what I need? If so where can I get a free version

OCR is an algorithm to extract a string from a bitmap. I still don''t get what you mean exactly ...

This is what I want to do. I want to tell a c++ program to check an area between (x1,y1) (x2,Y2) on my screen and somehow recognize the text that is @ that location so I can use that information in the program.
