Hey, I was wondering if anyone kneww any good books that tought you from making basic dialog boxes to making somthing professional like macromedia like products and stuff. I just feel like I''m not gettign anywhere and I''ve been on C++ for a year now, and can''t even make text change according to what you have in a textbox. Thanks everyone, -Sathenzar

The best (in my opinion) site to begin Win32 with is Winprog. It will get you through the basics of programming Windows but only the basics.

Programming Windows by Petzold is probably the best book on the subject but the copy I have (1998 version) doesn''t stray too much into the more complicated parts of the api.

Your best bet for learning in the long run is to become familiar with the MSDN. It offers documentation for (almost) every function, structure, constant, etc. in the api as well as tutorials and example code.

Invader X is correct. Petzolds book is ok, but its slightly outdated even though many of the concepts and functions have remained the same. I''ve found that without msdn, I''d be screwed. For instance, I need to utilize the rich edit control into my application but petzolds book does not cover that whatsoever, but researching msdn gave me the concepts I needed to use it. In short, msdn is your friend, and if you have visual studio with C++, there is already an msdn search feature on your hard drive. (though the msdn website has the most current articles)

Ok, thanks both of you for your help, I will try looking through MSDN''s site, but that seems liek it would take a year to go through. There are like 1000''s of functions in that blasted thing. But o well this is what I do
-Later, if anyone else has any ideas please feel free to post them.

win32asm.cjb.net is great for the basics (and some advanced stuff), don''t let the assembly code scare you the tutorials really arn''t language specific. catch22 some cool and intresting techniques here, like how to use cards.dll
