Do you guys have any suggestions for decent pieces of software that will allow me to construct a theoretical electronic circuit out of components and then test it?

MultiSim or PSpice. There''s also some plugins for Matlab that you can google for.
My lab partner in a circuits class kept talking about something called free spice. Its both open source, and based on an engineering design, which means the UI probably causes mild strokes. But it does have free in the name, which is always a plus.

More along the lines of ROM design, but I''ve always liked screwing around with the tools from national.com.
