As on gcc's page nobody reported this, I'm posting it here so that ( I hope ) many will notice. GCC 3.4 is now stable and availible for download on most mirrors. And yes, it's gcc-stable-3.4, not a prerelease-test-version. EDIT: I have to admit that g++ ( like in version 3.3.0 ) has problems with inheritance in template classes. It will be fixed in 3.4.1 ( PR14556 ) [edited by - 666_1337 on April 21, 2004 2:54:46 PM]

If it doesn''t have PCH, I don''t care.

(Does it have PCH yet? Or is it at least faster?)

According to what I just read, it has pch, and #pragma once is no longer depreciated.

It does have it, although from what i''ve gathered it''s not completely bugfree yet, but I could be wrong.

Here is the feature list. I will be interested to see when OS vendors start using it, although I am mainly excited about this release because it will allow for Apple''s changes are starting to enter GCC for everyone''s use, like Zero-Link and Fix-and-Continue for Objective-C.

GCC 3.4.x will be interesting when the PCH stuff settles down, because so many people seem to think that PCH''s are essential.

I''m really waiting for GCC 3.5.x, though. Because that tree has tree-ssa merged into it. MMMMmmmm, super optimizing goodness.

When do they expect to have it out the door?

When it''s done? heh, no idea.

You could probably estimate by looking at when 3.3 came out vs 3.4

gcc 3.5 will probably release early 2005. As I''ve seen there is little work on the gcc project done at the recent time...
