Is there a way to use the DirectX API to load MP3s? If not, than how do you do it? Is there a site where I can find an MP3 loader or the MP3 file format?

You can use DirectShow

I haven't really looked at the DirectShow stuff much, but does it have similar functionality to DirectMusic/DirectSound, in terms of motifs and such? And what's Fmod?

The best library I found is GAudio. But I think mp3 is not a free format you could need a licence...

I thought about ogg vorbis, too, but, it's an open source format, so does that mean that if I use their format, I have to license my program under GPL too? I am a HUGE open source supporter, but I don't want my programs under GPL just yet.

I haven't tried out the MP3 tutorial yet, doing so now...

MP3 is not a free format, but I don't think you need a license, either...

MP3 encoding and decoding is patented. If the patent applies in your country, you do need a license.

If you don''t contribute, you can''t call yourself a supporter. If you don''t want to contribute code, at least join the FSF and make a donation.

Only if you use a decoding library (or other code) that is itself under the GPL. Do your homework.

OK, thanks for your suggestions, guys. Because of the licensing costs that I overlooked (*smacks forehead*), I''m not going to use MP3.

[To: Fruny]Once I get a job, I''ll donate money.

I think he meant proponent, not supporter.
GDNet+. It's only $5 a month. You know you want it.
