hi, i wonder how do i add a music playing on the background as the game is running in different modes like: if the game has just began play music1.mp3 or if the game is about to finish play music2.mp3 besides this i wonder how to play other sounds like a bullet sound as there is also running a background music? Thnx a ton.. By the way is there a way to do this via using only "winmm.lib" because i could not download openAL or tell me a way how to install openAL and use

mmh... how''s that related to OpenGL ?!?
well...ok... there''s the word "OpenAL" in the text. :D

sure, you could use WinMM.lib... i did so a long time ago and it''s not very comfortable.
OpenAL is a lot easier. i didn''t have any problems downloading the library/SDK (just checked two minutes ago). the Windows-OpenAL-SDK on creative-labs'' website is very easy to use -> just install & use. for Linux, you can download the source via CVS. no problems compiling & using here, too.

i have not used MP3, so far... maybe you should check OGG.

-> if you just want to play some background music, and change the track now and then, maybe MCI will make you happy (MP3 too!)... but that''s Windows-only :D

well,
i am coding in c++6.0 in windows.
i could not understand what cvs is? so i could not download openal..
it''s not necessary for the music data to be in .mp3 format.
i just want to be able to play more than one music files at one time.
can you explain how to download openal ? is not there a link like downloadit
thnx

Look people, music and input are NOT part of OpenGL. OpenGL is neither a programming language nor an operating system. Contrary to popular belief, you do not program "in" OpenGL. It is purely a library for rendering graphics. Stop posting these topics in the OpenGL forum. Use the game programming or general programming forum. The only exception is where these topics relate directly to either SDL or GLUT.
