Hi, I''m a daily visitor of GameDev for the last 4 years, and proud to be a contributor and a receiver of its knowledge base. I''ve got contacts inside several game companies, and mod-community experience too, besides being a full time coder, developing my own 3D engine, and trying to patent AI technology, and develop robotic aplications in University. I also own a website that is game-programmer, and games-oriented, serving as host to several game programming projects by people from around the world: http://www.positronicdreams.com In short: I would like to take a more active role in GameDev So, i''m puting my free time (currently unemployed) out there for the use of the community... In general, asking to be a mod is the number 1 way not to get it.

What normally happens is you'll get a surprise letter one day, after thousands of posts helping out clueless people with detailed answers, informing you of a promotion. You'll come to the forums, realise how much of a bitch moderation really is, and over time become bitter and stubborn (like Oluseyi ).

(Occasionally, really, really helpful people get nominated by the community and with a little staff notice and an opening or two, a promotion happens. Such was the case with Lord SiCrane.)

hmmm... well, i own $100 of dollars on game programming books, some of them written by some people here, but the really tough hard-to-debug or hard-to-find stuff i solved here.

Time to help back as much as i can, to the next "generation" of people starting out in this field, by helping out here whenever i can/know, and writing programming tutorials on my website...

You can do that without a moderatorship. The only thing that being a moderator is good for is the massive power trip

I got a surprise letter, but I haven''t helped a soul here. Time for a new theory!

I''d say it''s because you''re helpfull, reasonable, and have good discernment on many of the issues that are involved in moderation. It just showed long enough for them to take notice.

Yep.

And Hugo, I got both emails you sent, but as Promit said, asking to become a mod is a pretty sure way to ensure that it never happens But he''s also right about being able to do all the things you said without being a moderator. We definitely appreciate everyone who strives to be a constructive member of the community, and I wish we had a way to recognize them all.

Btw, I''m kidding about the request disqualifying you. I''ll keep you in mind when we''re looking for moderators in the future, but I have quite a long list of moderator candidates at the moment.

If I were a mod I would create a sticky and once a week post a random name and ban their ass as a scare tactic to keep everyone in line.

Oh and if I caught any of the recently deceased masquerading around in a new screen name this would happen to them.

Too bad mods can''t do that.

I would get shitcanned the first week on the job. Lawness would reign over the forums becuase I would be too lazy to police the place.

They can''t ??!? When did that rule come into affect? Oh wait, you''re just refering to the sticky part. Yes, moderators cannot create sticky threads on their own.
