Here''s the problem. I want to get an interpolated value from a sparse ungridded field of values. This would be akin to finding a location''s current temperature from a set of weather stations. I want to do this without building a grid if possible. What am I looking for as far as search terms that I can feed into Google?. On a side note if someone can give the established algorithm or link to one I''d appreciate it.

Do you know the boundary conditions and flow properties?

blah blah blah.

boundary conditions -> yes, simulation domain takes place on the storm scale while observations are available from the synoptic level.
flow properties -> assuming atmospheric properties.

Here''s a search term to check for: "minimum norm network" (MNN)
