Is it a bad idea to lock vertex buffers on the fly, per frame? Would it be more wise to keep a system memory version of each mesh to use for this purpose?
For example, doing line intersects. I have to lock the buffer and trace through all of the triangles, right? I could keep a simple array of vertices in system memory. Would that be a big performace issue, or is there little cost to locking the buffer?
I''m a 3D newbie, so don''t cut me down too hard. Any advice on this?
