Hi, first be tolerant cause my English sucks :| I''ve done some tutorials etc with DX using first C++ then MDX with C#/.net I noticed the DX SDK install a particular DX runtime called Debug Runtime, and this seems to slow down my PC when I launch DX based application. What is exactely debug mode for ? for debug purpose ok but where/what ? Does OpenGL have the same ? This annoy me because I''m also a gamer I''d like to get the best performances gaming ... I know I can switch debug & release mode with DXDIAG but It seems to get still slower than normal no ? Ok now a second question. If I use only MDX with C#/.net, could I skip the DXSDK automated installion ? just to get a normal DX runtime and then get the best performances gaming and at the same time continue my work on MDX ? thanks a lot happy to talk with gameMakers
be crazy guys.

The only way I''ve found to deal with this is to remember to change modes depending on what I''m doing. If I''m gonna play a game, switch it all to Release mode. If I''m going to code, change them all to Debug.

The height of technology in my solution here is a post-it note that says "Remember to change your DX Debug mode." =)

Hope that helps. If anyone has a fancier way, I''d love to hear it.

Debug mode is essential if you''re a DX developer. It gives you tons of internal information from the DirectX runtime and drivers, including reasons for why errors occured.

Only games that use ManagedDX are going to use the MDX runtime, of course. There are no professional games out there right now that are built on managed code.

There''s a utility included in the SDK to quickly switch between debug and retail versions.

The debug versions are about 10-20% slower than the retail versions, so make sure you switch when gaming.
