I went out to get some food about a half hour ago, and I heard what I thought was the sound of raindrops on the grass. So I stuck my arms out to see, and no rain. I was like "Huh". Until I noticed about 30 cicadas just on my front porch. It''s like straight out of Temple of Doom with the bug hallway. I shit you not, there must be 10,000 cicadas crawling around on my front lawn. The first few started coming out on Sunday night, but I think they''re really serious about it now. Holy hell, I can''t imagine how many of them there are going to be. I''m going to have to take some pictures of this. Fox News is the Devil.

Are cicadas and locusts the same thing? I''ve heard cicadas before and always assumed they were these beetly things I''ve seen before, but apparently locusts look like grasshopers (I''ve never seen one before). I''m confused

You''d better get rid of them. Cicadas eat small children and animals. A flame thrower should work well. Just be sure to use caution when aiming it at your house.
I like the DARK layout!

Cicadas and locusts, respectively.

Haven''t seen any cicadas yet, but I''m assuming that they''ll show up at the most inconvenient time possible.

Cicada:

Locust:
Edit: Ha! Same pic as twix posted!

I've heard that if you stand close enough to a cicada that's chirping or whatever you call it that it can damage your ears since it's so loud.

I''m not sure, but here are some pictures. The ones here are more a plain yellow color when they first come out of their shells, and then turn all black and brown when their skin hardens. They have really bright red eyes. The grub picture looks exactly the same. Man I wish I had a digital camera right about now.

Will this affect local produce prices? Do they swarm over crops and pick them clean?

Man, you''d think so to watch the local news

I''ll go with the flamethrower, but I''ll just torch the grass

Nah, apparently they don''t eat, bite, or sting. All they do is make their little chirping song and have sex. Then in a couple weeks they all drop dead. Kinda sad really.

They''ll scare the bajeesus out of you though. Sometimes during the summer I''ll be walking up to my backdoor fairly late when all of a sudden FFFFLLLLLLLTLTTTTTLTLT!!!! there''s this giant THING flying around me making a loud FFFLLLLLLLTLLTLLT!!! noise (they''re noisy fliers). Then I''ll see it land (or fall after it bangs itself into the wall) and see that it''s just a cicada. Whew.

Down here we''ve had mosquitoes all over and these damn frogs that somehow are able to hop up onto the second story where my apartment is and spook me at night.

The cicadas are just begining to come out where i live, it happens every 17 years, exactly. My backyard has a bazillion holes in the ground from the cicadas coming out of their underground tombs.

In about a week, its supposed to be a challenge to walk around outside. Its a fucking plague.

Lol! That would make a pretty big plane if you used cicadas. I don''t think they''re all that great of fliers though, so it''ll have to be balsa wood or something else really light.

They must really like prime numbers.

I read there''s a breed that comes out every 13 years also...
