AdAware

I''ve been running AdAware for a couple of years now, and always thought was a good app. However, I read a recent allegation that it''s not all it''s cracked up to be, and may itself contain tracking/spyware. Does anyone know of any basis to this? My gut reaction was that it was crap, but who knows...?
well maybe it does.
maybe it has tracking/spyware to spy and track the spyware/trackingware already on your computer??
in either case, it has never taken over my computer, shown me annoying ads, or bombard me every 5 minutes with nonsense. so i don''t believe that allegation. and yes i know that even more hideous thing can be done with tracking/spyware but do you really think, they are doing that? i think not.
do you have a link of this allegation?

i agree, it seems unlikely. re. the link, it''s hardly worth tracking it down -- it was just a guy on another board who seemed convinced that adaware is evil.
i just wondered if there was any substance to the allegation, or if anyone else had heard it, altho, as i said, i assumed it was bollocks.
As far as I know adaware never tries to connect to the internet, except if you update it''s definitions. So I really doubt it''s spyware.
Also, adaware used to be a freeware project and it was very clear the makers really hated spyware, so I don''t think they''ll have turned evil now

LOL
Thank you Boops.
Sorry to tell you, but if you believe that kind of crap you are a complete idiot. AdAware has been around a long time, and since the start of it people have been telling idiots like you that AdAware contains spyware.
It''s like the virus HOAXes. OMFG, jdbmgr.exe is a fucking virus and not detected by nortan! OMFG DELETE IT NOWS!!!

spoken like a true fuckwit.
i''m stupid for investigating an assertion?
i always check mcafee.com to distinguish between hoax and genuine alerts, too. i guess i''m just irredeemably foolish.

The majority of people I know will run both Adaware AND Spybot in order to keep the system clean of spyware.
I noticed this too, I''m only running Adaware though. I''ve been wanting to check out Spybot for a while, but the name is quite scary: Spybot: Search and Destroy >_<

nah, he was advocating spybot instead. perhaps he''s a spybot stooge!
i used to run both, but haven''t bothered with spybot on my new puter, since it hadn''t picked up anything adaware missed in literally months. i figured adaware had got their act together.
not only do you need to get the updated list, but you also need to, soon or later, update the Ad-Aware itself, IOW, download a higher version of Ad-Aware.

The thing is, there are things that AdAware ignores or doesn''t notice (even with updated defs). That''s why many people also run SpyBot. Two heads are better than one, and all that...
Just in case anyone missed it the first time.
