Hi. I assume this is the right forum for this. I need some help! I recently switched my web host over to a different and better hosting company. One of the changes is that my old host used Windows 2003 server... the new host uses Apache (Linux). I have several cgi-bin executables that I ran on the old server, to provide things like high-score lists, etc. Naturally, they don''t work on the linux server. But worse, when I give them to the host to compile, they won''t even compile! So, I think the only thing for me to do is get hold of a compiler that I can use on my Win32 system, that will output a binary that will work on Linux. Please... anyone... do you know where I can find this? Thanks in advance!

I presume that there are error messages. Call me strange, but aren''t error messages supposed to help you fix your code so that it compiles successfully?

*Gasp!*

How about that? You look at the error messages and fix your program so that it''s valid code for the target platform.

As for a cross compiler, GCC will do it. Setting up the appropriate configuration, etc - you''re on your own.

Thanks Oluseyi, you''re about as helpful as diarrhea.
Why did you even reply? No date tonight?

What language are your cgi scripts written in? It is typical to write cgis in interpreted languages such as Perl, Python, Java, php, etc...

If your scripts are in fact written in C/C++, (not really ideal web development languages for many reasons) you may want to consider rewriting in a more portable language. Your next web host could be BSD or even OSX.

You could try wine, but I agree with Oluseyi. A cgi shouldn''t have much in the way of OS specific function calls, and if it does it was poorly written.

Yeah, he's like that sometimes. You get used to it though, and find out that there's usually pretty sound advice tucked away through the sarcasm.

For instance, he pretty much gave you the best answer anyone could give given the rather limited information you provided, programming-wise (this IS the general programming board, after all...)

Edit: My bad, he's a dick: he even told you what to compile crossplatform code with, like you asked. Damn that Oluseyi!
