Did you see it? How''d you like it? It is of course no contest with the book and unfortunately it isn''t a classic it could have been but I still think it''s a pretty good movie on its own. Brad Pitt made me change my views on homosexual marriages I''m surprised people here weren''t excited by this movie. How can geeks that enjoy LOTR and Dune not be excited by The Iliad?

I can best describe it as "ehh".

The character development is very weak, there is no suspense during any battle scenes, and you generally just do not care what happens. Despite the impressive moments like the scope of the entire Greek fleet, the movie really fails to invoke any sort of feeling.

You can''t use the excuse "well, everyone knows what happens already" - most people knew how LOTR transpired, but the battles were intense and suspenseful nonetheless.

Anyway, like I said, "ehh". Not bad, but very long, boring, and unexciting.

The trailer makes it look like a poorly made movie.

I just thought it was too long. It would have made a much better movie IMO if it had been concentrated into the usual 2 hours. I also thought the end was rushed.

It looks cool except for those lame looking jump attacks. Maybe a jumping attack might be interesting if done once but I''ve seen some prevews and have seen three of these attacks done so far.
Very gay. I haven''t seen the movie yet but if it is as a noted by other member then I''m probably going to wait till it comes out on dvd.

Cant wait for Spiderman 2
Still wish they picked a more appropriate actor for Mary Jane though. The girl they chose is cute and all but she isn''t hot as depicted in the comic. She simply isn''t curvy enough and her face is too...too something...dont know what but it just doesn''t work. Neither does the actor who plays peter but thats okay with me for some reason.

Sorry so off the topic.

Haha, yeah. That retarded jumping attack - I felt like I was watching Troy: Street Fighter, witnessing that stupid thing four or five times.

The Iliad was a shitty story with no real point to most of it. And the massive battle scenes are already getting pretty boring. How many times can we see thousands of people fighting?

Its a lot like the Day After Tomorrow. They''re just applying modern special effects to the same old worn out story and pretending its a whole new movie. What is there to be excited about? I saw Deep Impact when it came out, and it sucked.

That''s because they''re not done right. You should see War and Peace done by a russian director Ryazanov. No CG effects whatsoever (the technology just wasn''t there back then, the movie was done in late 70s/early 80s) but the battle scenes look better than anything I''ve seen in modern movies.

Its not the battles themselves, its the fact that movies are being made around them, rather than the other way around.

Not bad but it was free.

The jumping attack i thought was pritty sweet. Well at least the first one, when he had to fight that big guy. That is definately not how I was expecting things to go down. The slow mo or what ever you wanna call it just emphisised(does this word exist? sp?) to the surprise.

I thought it went by quickly, but I really didn''t care about it. Wasn''t good or bad. I never really cared about any of the characters and I thought they changed the story a little too much.

The movie was long, boring, and the character's behaviours and lines were all very predictable.

I also found the soundtrack very distracting from the movie, the orcestral composition was very poor, and it was so stereotypically themed around bongo drumgs and horns that it made it very difficult to focus on the movie. Certainly no John Williams.

The only thing I enjoyed about the movie was hotness of women, but even that wasn't great.

I'd give it 2 1/2 stars.

i thought it was a decent movie. it was no Gladiator or LOTR (pick one). some parts were slow and yes predictable. i couldn''t tell if Achilles was arrogant, confused, or just finding himself (as far as the movies is concerned). in any case, it''s worth a see, especially if you haven''t read the book.

I thought it was alright. I went to see it on my first date ever last night. I''m 17, and I''ve only been on one date in my entire life. That''s sad. Ah well, I guess I just start late. I''ve another date on Saturday. Woo.

Didn''t they change alot of the story from the iliad though? I heard that somewhere so I''ve never been remotely interested in seeing it. Plus, it was only a couple of weeks ago that I first saw helen of troy, I think it was originally a (can''t think of the word, one of those tele movies they show over 2 nights).

Hi.

Just saw it three hours ago. The only thing going for it are the somewhat cool battles, somewhat cool one on one fightings, and the naked women.

However, I found it poorly directed. They cut from one angle to the next in the same scene reasonlessly, and I lost all concentration on the story. Then, that stupid background music. 50% of the time it was a woman vocalizing, poorly. It''s not the voice, but what she does with it. Jumps from octave to octave, thus taking my concentration away.

Also, they never talk about who Achilles was. The only thing even remotely related to Achilles was his name, the fact he was a soldier, and the fact he was shot in the heel. Nothing else. Might as well pick him another name, and that would be a better story. Disglorifies the name of Achilles.

It''s sort of a shame that movies today rely more on special effects and half naked women instead of the story line. And I must agree with whoever said that they couldn''t tell what Achilles was thinking.

No happy ending. Achilles dies. The end. (Sorry if I blew it for someone)

Also, I hate to put this against the movie, but I really had to pee for 90% of the movie. I thought I could hold it to the end, really didn''t want to get up. I couldn''t concentrate.

But really, these are small things. I only listed what''s bad about it. Overall, the movie is actually pretty good. 3.25 stars.

You people suck. Was Troy ground breaking? no Did Troy still kick ass? yes

Yes the LotR trilogy kicked ass and we''re now going to compare every epic adventuring movie that comes out to them, but nothing isn''t going to stand up to them. Compared to the great majority of the rest of the crap that comes out Troy rocked.

The movie is two hours and forty minutes long, I had to pee through most of it, and I still certainly didn''t feel it was too long nor did I find it boring in the least. The movie didn''t set any new bars, but it still delivered.

I haven''t watched the movie yet, but from what i''ve heard and what i''ve seen in the trailer i''m not very willing to.
It just makes me mad when hollywood touches mythology or history.
They screw it up.
What can i say more when the whole movie concentrates around the line "a war made for love"!!
Ridiculous to say the least.
The script writers are just unbelievable...

LOTR on the other hand was pretty much a surprise to me since in most parts it keeps the spirit of the book and respects it.But LOTR movies where made by a fan.

I''ve heard that in the movie Agamemnon dies in Troy and the worst of all there are no Gods participating!
If it''s true then it''s just hilarious.Iliad without the Gods is a blasphemy...Homer is cursing from its grave.

Saw it on Friday night. Brad Pitt is the shittest actor ever. He''s wooden, and spends half the film staring off into the middle distance trying to look thoughtful.

The dialogue is weak.

There''s no female nudity (yet some of the women actors are gorgeous).

Troy must have had the worst tacticians ever. They send a handful of archers to defend the beach against a bllion ships, and stand right up against the walls for one of the battles, totalling removing any chance of retreat if things go wrong.

All in all, I thought it was pretty boring, and too long. It certainly wasn''t a great film.
