Hi, I am wondering if anybody succeeded loading Unreal levels into their engine? Does any file descriptions, tutorials, or examples exist? Any help is greatly appreciated. -Dirk

Unreal models: http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/~pbourke/geomformats/unreal/

Theres some stuff on Unreal levels here: http://www.flipcode.com/cgi-bin/msg.cgi?showThread=19July2000-UnrealFileFormat&forum=askmid&id=-1

Seems to be a very grey area, so imo I would definately go for one of the Quake formats since all of them have been revealed.

Check out www.gametutorials.com (OpenGL page 5), and http://www.cs.brown.edu/research/graphics/games/quake/quake3.html

Very grey indeed. I read that Epic plans to publish a spec, but they don''t say when.

@Q3: I import Q3 maps already. Actually I planned to extend my engine to support Unreal maps. Thanx anyway.

Unreal files are a complex beast because they contain huge amounts of data, from geometry to triggers to scripts, all in one file.

Quake files tend to be a bit simpler because the AI and such are in seperate files.

There are components available in the Delphi language for loading Unreal package files, which can be levels. 2late pointed it out already, but he had the wrong URL. It should be http://www.acordero.org/

Good luck!
Newbie programmers think programming is hard.Amature programmers think programming is easy.Professional programmers know programming is hard.

No the actual unreal map file only contains the geometry and other things. When you package them, the .u files, contain all of that. Basically like how a PAK3 file works.
