I''m looking for a free program that I can use as a sort of organizer or personal knowledge base, that supports putting texts with images in folders, supports some form of typing mathematical functions, can search through it, has easy access to all my information, and prerably works both in windows and linux on the same computer. Does there exist any such thing?

I currently use a wiki its not realy a knowledge base more like a notepad with version history and smart search

wiki is mainly used for an open-content encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

but it confourms well to a knowledge base
you will need a webserver php mysql to get it working thou

its searchable
supports text and images
you can post code on it
you can get you info from anywhere that has a web browser

Fwiw not all Wiki''s require a server, http://www.tinyted.net/eddie/wiki/ for instance.

Should work fairly well as a knowledge base I''d think, this particular one does not do half of what you are after but it is a nice fast easy way to see if the idea strikes your interest.

Might try LaTex or some varient for your mathematical function needs

Anyway fwiw.
