programing union

everyday i think that we are programing our own demise. My friend know''s vb, and he''s quite skilled in it. but of course vb is''nt a ''real'' languge, it''s not exactuly very hard to use, or hack around with. and companies would reather hire a vb programer like him then a C++ programer like me because he can get the job done faster. my question is are we programing our own demise? do we need a union?
So, a real language should be HARD to program with ?
I guess I have strange priorities.

Is there something dishonorable about this? If VB gets the job done, and gets it done quickly, use it. Seems pretty obvious to me.

Most of the greatest evils that man has inflicted upon man have come through people feeling quite certain about something which, in fact, was false.
-Bertrand Russell, Unpopular Essays, "Ideas That Have Harmed Mankind"
A real programmer shouldn''t be intimidated by C, but should be able to accept that C is not the best language for every problem. If you know C in and out, picking up VB should take days.

A real language should be hard to learn...
No it shouldn''t.

"Days"? I learned PHP in about three hours.

Crap, I misunderstood you. I thought you were trying to imply that union structures were too kiddie, and should be gotten rid of to save our careers.
No, we do not need a labor union. Unions were great a hundred years ago, but today they just screw things up. If Indians do work just as well as Americans do, then good for them.
Now, do Indians need unions? Perhaps.

unions invariably hurt the industry they are implemented in. Take the teacher's union, for example. Oh sure, the union protects their interests and keeps their pay high, but it places no accountability on them, and we've got crap ass teachers.
edit: I will personally organize a group (though not a union) to combat any serious attempt to make an IT union

Just because a language is easy doesn''t mean a company will hire just anybody to be a programmer with it. Companies want productivity and a trained programmer is going to be more productive than a 5 year old. (Yeah, extreme example, but you get the idea.
Oh, and if you want a programming job that will never be outsourced, go into the defense industry like I did. Those jobs can''t be outsourced.

Can''t they? US is already importing weapons and technology from Israel. How long do you think it will take untill they outsource all their army? :D

Did you really just say that teachers are well paid? Interesting.
Anyhow, programming should not be difficult to learn or difficult to do. As programming becomes an activity requiring less and less skill, it will naturally spawn derivitive fields that do require increasing levels of skill.

for the crap job they do? teachers (especially college professors) have almost complete job security. And any time they are pressured to improve (you know, like actually be able to pass the tests they administer), they threaten to strike and demand a raise.
