Yes. I can sit with my leg behind my head too, not that its very lady-like.
quote:I used to be like that too but I started stretching regularly. After almost a year of on/off stretching I can almost reach the floor with my palms. It makes me feel healthier when I can at least reach my toes (and less healthy when I can''t).

Can you touch your toes without bending your knees?
I can''t at all! There''s at least 40 cm between my fingers and my toes, and I can''t get any further. I wonder if I should stretch and train on this, or if that might be unhealthy maybe?

Yeah. I can also do a complete split.
I could do that in 2nd grade because I wanted to be like Jean-Claude Van Damme in Blood Sport.

Where to find the intensity (Updated May 1, 2004)
I can touch my big toe to my nose. Most people are completely amazed that I can do this (if you''ve seen me you''ll know why); but I used to be unbelievably limber when I was younger. Years of Judo, you know.
Getting there again, though.

That should go in the Sex Ed thread :D
Well is there a certain way you should stretch (similar to the process of weightlifting)? or just bend down as long as you can?
i can only touch my toes if i go running or have a real good lower body workout.

I can''t, I''m about a good 8 inches away. For some reason I''m completely unflexible. I used to stretch six days a week for four years and still could not touch my toes, got within a few inches though. I am not overwieght either, I am actually in good physical condition, just not flexible for some reason.
the problem is, people think that "stretching" literally means to stretch the muscles. In fact, this is a misnomer, you will hurt yourself if you stretch your muscles. What you are trying to do is relax your muscles, and by working out and "stretching" you fatigue your muscles until they basically give up and let go.

As I recall with stretching, you are working the "long fibres" of the muscle, whereas with weight lifting you are working the "short fibres". If you weight lift without stretching, you risk becoming ape-like. Something like that. Also, it seems that many programs that focus on stretching, such as yoga and pilates, follow the idea that each stretch has an opposite stretch. So, instead of just stretching to touch your toes, you also stretch up to the ceiling as part of one complete stretch.
