[java] adding items to a JList

I have an ArrayList of Building objects, which in turn has an ArrayList of Room objects. I have a editor form for adding Buildings to the list and Rooms to the buildings. I have a JList that I want to display the buildings in, but for the life of me I can''t figure out how to add items to the JList after it has been initialized.
