Just make a program that you have always wanted, but can''t find That is what I do. Chess program, Balance a checkbook, an instant messanger app that sends stuff on a Intranet (internally) between workers....stuff like that.

You''ve mastered it if you''re no longer confused about using it. Nobody memorizes API''s, you just need to know enough to be able to search the documentation for anything you''re not fully remembering.

If you don''t hate it yet then you haven''t mastered it.

Make a text editor that does syntax highlighting for C++ code, and add in all the bells and whistles you can think of.
