This is getting really aggravating... I didn''t even imagine that I''d have problems compiling a simple DirectX program, but it appears that I am I''m following Tricks of the windows game programming gurus, and I''ve gotten to the first simple DirectX program that I have to compile. When I attempt to, though, I get this: main.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _IID_IDirectDraw4 Debug/adamdx.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals I have practically all the DirectX libraries included in my project, as well as the DX include and lib directories at the top of my VC++ directories option screen. Why is this happening?

Yay! Another one of these... Two solutions:

1) Install your new DirectX libs and includes into your M$VC directories (include and lib) and agree to overwrite any old files

2) Go into Project->Settings and click on the Directories tab (I think it is this menu) and put the full path to your DirectX up the top of the list.

Edit> Yeah you also need the guid's included See message below

Hope that helps

hello, i think that someone had exactly the same problem recently, the solution that was found to his problem was to include dxguid.lib with the other libraries... hope that will help
