Hey peeps, ummm.. how do I start this? Anyways, I''m having trouble trying to get the right measurment in pixels that fits the screen perfectly. What I mean by this, is that, well, when I am doing webpages, I can never get the right measurment in pixles for graphics that fits the scree, it is either too short, or too long, what is the measurment for a website? Right now I''ve been using 794 pixels, and it works great in Netscpae, but in IE it is to large. And btw, I use Dreamweaver 3, so if there are any shortcuts, let me know. - Eric

You''ll have better luck with percentages.

I use %ges for everything except frames. Frames (and the non-frames version of layering) are fixed to the pixel for side and top bars, then the rest are *, makes it easy for a bit of backwards compatability. Personally though, anybody who still wants to browse the net on 640*480 is living in the past. I think 800*600 is too small (but I develop for this size). I am so picky with sizes that on 1024*768 (my monitor doesn''t support any larger unfortunately ) I shrunk the text size and the icons by half ... Just too picky I suppose

I hope that there aren''t any people who still use 640*480 for Internet browsing here! (not in gamedev, because 320*200 is always fun programming for )

Try to design the pages so that theres an area that can be stretched out (usually in the center.) Don''t have an explicit page width. If you need an explicit width, make it smaller than 800 and center it on the screen.

well your always gonna have that problem and a good rule of thumb is to always make your pages a tad bit smaller then the page allows. i like 1024 x 768 resolution but for games my processor would have a hard time keeping up and after a while that resolution is real hard on the eyes for me

The big problem of browser incompatibility. I had many problems to make the web of my employer looking good in IE and Netscape.
The problem is that Netscape don''t use the pixels measurement the same way that IE. IE use pixels like it should. But netscape work with percentage even if you use pixels. If you have a canvas of 800*600, netscape take 800 and divide it by 100. So 1% = 8 pixels. then netscape will only use 8, 16, 24, 32, ... pixels. If you want a 84 pixels frame, in IE it will be 84 pixels wide, but in netscape it will be 80 pixels wide. But if you change the wide of netscape, your canvas will change and your 84 pixels will be interpret maybe at 82 pixels... hopefully netscape6 use the real pixels size

hope this help.
