hey folks I was thinkin (yeah, I know, I gotta cut back) My computer is sometimes stable and sometimes not, I built it myself. How many of you have computers that you would consider stable and how many of you don''t. Also, include whether you built it yourself, bought it from a big co. like compaq (blech) or dell, or if it was from a small local company, for example something with your local large cities name in it (around here it would be milwaukee PC). I''m just curious. later, -arsenius after three days without programming, life becomes meaningless

I think my computer is pretty stable. its HP Pavilion from a big computer chain store in England. I would say its stable but it went AWOL once not letting me into windows for no apparent reason. My laptop however (Sony Vaio PCG-F520) i got from Sears and I have never known a more unstable comuter it crashes virtually every time I use it. Maybe that is just cos its a laptop tho (Ive never used a laptop before so i don''t know whether that is the price you pay for a laptop)

If you want more stability, here is some advice: Delete Windows or Never use your computer... I hope that solved your problem . Try a CLI, they are more stable than any GUI that I have seen. Bring Back DOS and Keep the Linux Command Line!

of curse good parts make a good computer. but there others factors that affect it too. is a common believe that the windows algoritms suffer a great influence from the the stars and the chi, so a little of astrology and feng shui come in handle for any computer user... for a example: when the moon is on gemini and is full moon it will works fine i you can even run quake 3 without a 3d board. but when the your room´s chi is stagned there a increased probability of crashes in your computer. a good solution for it check if your room have a window pointing to north , the chi sha that come from the white tiger is horrible for windows (but the linux seens to have a great resistance to it ) so the ideal is put some mirrows on the window to reflect this bad chi...

just kidding, i buyed my computer complete in a super market(?) and it works fine for me. in fact i still not opened it yet.
my micro brand is metron, probabily a brazilian company so maybe you never heard about it

My computer doesn''t crash at all, though I don''t leave it running all the time (i.e., I shut it off at ''night''), so its only on about 8 hours on a week day and about 18 on a weekend. This number is a bit skewed because I''m only in windows about half the time.
Its a nice computer I built myself; I have no reason besides work to leave the seat in front of it.

I blame it all on windows, only last month I had to reformat my hard-drive. My PC had become so unstable anything I touched was a disaster, nothing worked at all - I got blue-screens-of-death (tm) when I booted up, and everything had at least 5 error messages ready to leap out at me and rip my head off. The start button,my computer, internet explorer,shortcuts.. all of which made my computer crash. The descision to nuke my hard disk came when safe-mode(what a joke) became as unstable as a one-legged-elephant, I feared for my life....

/btw my PC is custom built, 200mmx 32m ram etc.
Even now (3 weeks later) it still isn''t perfect.

I''m running Win98, and the only serious problems I''ve ever had are related to my really old hard drive. Since I bought a new one, I''ve been relativly problem free.

My computer is home-built, but it was stable until I installed Internet Explorer. Now I get these weird Invalid Page Fault error windows that keep reappearing when I close them, and they lock up the computer all the time. Programs just stop responding on occasion, too.

I bought mine in a local company with parts that I choose and my computer is stable. The problem is the OS and the programs! But with win2000 it''s more stable that with win98.

he he he, i have a HUGE picture window facing north in my bedroom
it became much more stable when I upgraded my HD, and when I finally got good ram from the computer store, it took me 3 tries!!! But then I got some more new hardware and it started crashing again, lately it''s developed a new quirk: it goes black and the PC speaker starts beeping error codes!!! I don''t like that, and as such, I''m gonna buy myself a new mobo/chip. 850 here we come Then I''ll have a whole new set of problems to learn about

Once in a while my computer might get possesed by the bad juju karma mongerman but i cane it with rose stalks and he goes away for a while. I had the computer built and ungraded many times. I blame M$ for placing juju berries in the OS which keeps bringing back the bad juju. It''s time for another caning...Bad juju bad jujuj bad bad

I''ve built this computer myself and for the most part, it is trouble free, except everyonce in a while, it just decides to reboot out of nowhere. I usually format about every 5 - 6 months or so.

Its trouble free but it decides to reboot itself once in a while? Thats a messed up version of trouble free if you ask me. Anyway, if you really want stability go Linux *and* WinME. Just dont run anything on windows or it might call up the wrath of Zues and crash. j/k, do whatever you want

My computer refuses to turn off... I have to physically turn it of at the power point, and when I turn the power point back on, the computer comes right back to life.... Damn win98 + BIOS + ATX Case!

That''s because of the ATX board. The power switch is software, so the board have always 5 volts. When the computer crash and you can''t turn it off, you can hold the power switch 5-10 seconds and it will turn off.

It is 10 seconds for my computer... BUT IT STILL DOESN''T TURN OFF! It powers down, and immediately powers up again... Did you think I was unaware of the delay? If I was, I certainly wouldn''t be making games

I built my computer and it is usually super super stable (doesn''t crash for like a couple months) the first few months after installing windows. Then after I start tweakin with things and screwin around on it, it starts to tweak out more and more and more. Right now it crashes every few days or so. Somtimes a few times a day depending on what i''m doing

Bah, that''s OK. I am never really offended. If I was really offended, I would just flood a board with Anon Posts (j/k). Nah, I never really get angry, I just act it to get my point across. At least now it is understood eh?
