I''m mainly interested in replies from female posters, and no, this is not a lonely hearts column. What do you think a man ought to be?

That''s kind of an odd question. Well, since my criteria are not gender dependant, I''ll answer what I think an adult human ought to be. The ideal adult human:
is self-confidant
is able to manage their emotions
is willing to work at whatever interests them
is capable of taking care of a child by themselves for 4 hours
lives an examined life (Socrates)
wants themself and others to be happy
is assertive
knows their behavior will affect others and adjusts it
accordingly
can do all household chores if given good instructions
can be eloquent and persuasive if necessary
sees the humor in life

And yes, I''m female.

I''m a guy, but I think a man is a guy with a really cool car, big piece of meat and lots of respect for other people. (moreso the latter than the other two).

No, I''m not gay. Just givin'' a piece of mind.

There are three types of people in the world; those who can count, and those who can't.

Wow, that''s the first time I''ve looked at a character list and fitted only one of the criteria. Given good instructions I can do household chores. I''m a failure.

I think a guy should be somewhat caring, honest, have a sense of humor, a little intelligent, and in control of his emotions.

BTW, in case you were wondering, I am a guy. I admit I meet some of those requirements...

But the most important thing that most people are missing is that the man has to actually exist. I can''t stress that enough. Nobody really likes you if you do not exist!

Firstly: I put the seat down. Comes from living with too many women. But when I am on my own, I leave it up (where it should be). Women complain that men leave the toilet seat up, why don''t men complain that women leave the seat down? That always confused me, and usually annoyed me if I really needed a piss...

Secondly: Man U. Suck!

Well, my theory is this:
Women need the toilet seat down 100% of the time.
Men need the toilet seat down some % of the time >0.
So for a household that''s half men and half women, the toilet seat needs to be down >50% of the time, so that should be it''s default position.
The only case in which the default position might be up is in a household that''s more than half men, and I have yet to live in a household that is.

I do think that list was gender-specific. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be so much about that "lives an examined life" crap and more about her being really hot...

j/k...okay enough of me trying to be funny...

Anyway
I don't really see why assertive is so important. I mean, it'll help you in life, but I don't think it really helps in a relationship. When I hear assertive I think of someone who just thinks they're right and doesn't have an objective view of things. I'm probably thinking to extremely about it though.

Doesn''t this go against equal rights? Shouldn''t there be a vote in the household? I have a balance in a household tipped by male[s] (ie, just me at the moment). But would I put the seat down for when my g/f comes over? Hmmm? It seems like equal rights should dictate that the seat should be left whichever way it is left and nobody should complain, otherwise the dominance tips to the women (and nobody will ever convince me that males dominate this society. Just because most males think they do, they have no idea how much they are really dominated).

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR MEN!

Leaving the seat down, however, is unhygenic. The seat will collect dust and microbes, and become a breeding ground for bacteria at a faster rate han if the seat is left up. So, what do you want, a minor inconvience or a major pain in the ass (pun intended?)
