Test My Program Please!

Original Post
Hi!
This is a program that I created which is an Artficial Life simulation which models darwinism. The program takes a bunch of tiny creatures and pits them against each other in a battle for food.
I would appreciate if you would download the program from this following link:
www.geocities.com/wavewash/clv1.4.zip
Geocities is giving me some problems so this link might now work if you just click on it.
if that doesn't work, here is the link you can write directly into the address of your browser to get it
www.geocities.com/wavewash/clv1.4.zip
Please tell me if you experience any problems and the error if there was one. This program was made in Visual Basic so it will require the VB 5 runtimes, Most people have this already on their computer so I don't think it will a problem. But if you don't have them, you can get them from pretty much anywhere, just do a basic search for VB5 runtimes.
I made a website for the program, if you would like for information please go to
www.geocities.com/wavewash
The links on the download portion of the website don't work.I gotta get those fixed.
The program outputs a text log file to C:\windows\desktop. If you computer doesn't have the path C:\windows\desktop, the program will give you an error.
Thanks!

I tried to run it but it gave me a Run time error 76 Path not found.
I am running Windows NT 4.0
I figure it may be something like it''s looking for C:\Windows.
I''ll check it out.
Hey, Freud, what brand of bullshit are you shoveling, huh? Right now he's probably dancing around his room in a pair of his grandmother's panties, singing show tunes and rubbing himself with peanut butter...

Oppen Issue 1:
If you put the Food Reproduction Number down to 5,
and the Ameoba start number down to two, also max
out the Food Lifetime, and Food Start Number,
It give an overflow error number 6. I think you did
not declare a the right variable size for the food amount.

Boy do I feel like a shmuck, I kept pressing new post and kept wondering why my replies weren''t showing up in the thread. I''ve deleted them. sorry!
I just looked into that error Wolf. Your right, I defined the food int when I changed it into long the program ran for a longer time. But also another problem was that the new increased amount of food crashed my computer, which isn''t a good thing. So now I am stuck between the decision to either put a constant cap on the food or let it go on and just hope that the persons computer can take the calculation load.
Right now I am opting to put a cap. And then put an option to make the program take into account that if the screen is filled with food then the soil won''t be as furtile. But if there is a steady stream of birth and death in the plants then they can flourish. Whuddya think? Good idea or bad?
If you have any ideas to make this program better, I''m open to all suggestions. :0)
Thanks again

Making the log file optional would be a good idea, I can''t run your program because all of the servers at this school do not allow any access to the local C: (I''ll try in my dorm room however).
Darwin makes good AI learning routines, even if I don''t believe in it happening in real life.

Hi Spar,
The link does work, but you have to copy it into the location bar of your browser. I have no clue why.
I think I''ll take ya up for that offer! Thankyou! I am going to update the program tonight so that it will bring up a box asking you where you wanna put the log file. I am also adding some features. I''ll upload it today or tomorrow depending how fast I can finsih the program.
I''m not sure if any of you have noticed, but sometimes the ameobas get stuck along the side. To move an ameoba, select it and right click where you want to place it. What would you feel if I tried to make the world wrap around itself? So that ameoba could cross one side and come up on the other? Good idea or bad? It''ll get rid of the stuck ameoba bug, but it''ll be harder to track the ameoba when they switch sides. Tell me what you think!
The new program will have the ability to:
Input your own ameoba (SUPER AMEOBA!!!)
New World option to make food reproduce near Parent food
Ability to place food on the world
