What kind of OS beos is.I´ve heard it loads in five seconds!
Well if here is someone using Beos it would be nice to get own Beos tread here.I think it would be nice to use it.
BTW: how many OS have you installed on your computer I have two.
*/Once man compiled kernel without ELF binaries ,modules were working fine. Were they?*/
I''ve got two OSes installed on my computer (Windows and BeOS). I''m getting ready to install Linux (again), I''m currently doing a backup of some stuff I don''t want to lose. I''ve got the Personal Edition of BeOS installed on my FAT32 partition, it loads _fast_ (not in 5 seconds, maybe 10), but that might be because I''m not using the native FS (BFS). BeOS is a really nice OS, it''s fast, goodlooking and it''s got some really neat features (making wav files from audio cd''s is soooo easy (simply mount the audio cd and then drag and drop the tracks you want to your hd)). As I said, it''s extremely fast, much faster than Windows... It doesn''t have that many programs though
I''m thinking about installing BeOS just for fun but I doubt I''ll use it much...
Right now I have 3 OSes installed on this machine:
(sorted by amout of use)
Win2K
Linux
Win98
I must say I''m pretty happy with this constellation and it gets the job done. I''m pretty new to Linux (I''m having trouble compiling an ICQ client right now
even if it sounds stupid after installing XF86 4.0.1 and KDE)

i''ve had both linux and BeOS and i had to get rid o both o them cuz they were both stupid enuf not to detect my internet connection
i guess most o people in here know about my internet connection, but for those who dont know: my internet connection is through USB and othe OS''s are stupid enough not to expect such a thing
this is the way internet connection is in tiberia. just USB

BeOS is essentially MacOS with a better kernel, better multi-tasking, dual-cpu support, and protected memory.
(Well, OS X changes all that)
It''s sad tho. Because of the lack of hardware support, and software on BeOS, it hasnt taken off like it should have. Its a wonderful OS with very low overhead which makes it perfect for editing video and sound.
Maybe in a better world BeOS would be more successful.

Stop!
I won´t make one file(Such large than 512 megs) for beos.
Does professional edition has own partition system.
I cannot either connect to internet via Linux but *yet* but anyway it´s good OS and GPL is nice.
But think situation GPL multiplayer game. You can imagine amount of character editors that would be made.
Maybe Boes would go more to Opensource way to get more users.
Still I won´t buy professional edtion if it costs similiar to windows.

Jaxks, after the installation program created the big file, you can move BeOS into its own partition. Just boot into BeOS, Preferences->Installer (I think)->Follow instructions.
BeOS costs far less than Windows. I saw BeOS Pro 5 for 75 USD (722 SEK) at linuxbutiken.com. Windows 2000 Pro costs around 300 USD (3000 SEK) here in Sweden.

BeOS comes in a free and pay version. You can track down both by going to www.be.com, though someone else is handling the distribution ( I think gobe.com ).
Put simply, BeOS beats the hell out of Win98, and in some ways tops Win2000. It performs quite well and is the most pleasant to use and code for of any OS I''ve tried.
Unfortunately, due to limited resources, BeOs is lacking in a few areas. Its hardware support is a bit spotty, particularly in its lack of a GeForce driver, though last time I checked one was in development and should be out before too long. Besides that, it currently doesn''t have hardware 3d support (though it does support OpenGL in software) and its networking layer kind of stinks. However, the networking layer is currently undergoing a full rewrite (reputed to be almost as fast as unix) and hardware 3d is on the way (actually tests better than both windows AND linux). So, we can only hope. Personally, I''d love to see BeOS succeed -- it''s a terrific OS -- but between Linux and Windows 2000 it''s got some stiff competition.
One nifty thing to try in BeOS that you can''t do in Windows -- play an mp3 and while the mp3 is playing move the file to another directory. Another nifty thing to try: play 20 instances of a movie trailer simultaneously and marvel at how not a frame is dropped in any of them.
