WASHINGTON (AFP) - Adolph Hitler broke into the US presidential campaign with Democrats and Republicans trading charges over the use of the Nazi dictator's image in bitter attack ads. The row broke out over a new television spot aired by President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s campaign that shows Hitler twice in a compendium of clips that brands White House challenger John Kerry (news - web sites) and his Democratic allies a "coalition of the wild-eyed." Kerry campaign spokesman Phil Singer issued a statement calling the images "remarkably insensitive" and "hateful," and adding, "The use of Adolph Hitler by any campaign, politician or party is simply wrong." "They are trying to convey a comparison between Senator Kerry and the Democrats and Hitler," Singer told AFP, demanding that the Bush camp immediately pull the ads and issue an apology.

I haven't posted a political article here before, but this one is just too good to pass up.
LOL!
That is the funniest campaign advertisement I've ever seen. It's almost like a satire on itself..only it's supposed to be serious! Not to mention it breaks a cardinal rule.. you don't show what the other guy has to say negative about you in your own campaign.
Basically, the entire thing is showing Kerry criticize Bush, with him retaliating by going "look! doesn't he look like Hitler everyone? omgimtehfunniestpresidentevar!@"

K, I just watched the ad. Seriously, what's up with it? If I were a campaign coordinator I'd pull it immediately.... not because of the bizarre hitler thing (who knew he endorsed Kerry?), but because it just kinda sucks as an ad. "Coalition of the Wild-Eyed"? Poetic but unfocused.
ROFLMAO!!!!
Look what Hitler is saying (pause on it) and then what Bush is saying. Is that from an Anti Bush clip?
The entire clip is an ANTI Bush clip, except for the ending (in fact even the ending sounds like a parody).
I think they have a traitor in their team, who makes Democrat propaganda with their money and aproval :D

Quote:To be fair, the Hitler comparisons from moveon.org consisted of two contest entries out of thousands. To imply that is characteristic of the organization as a whole, or even that such a sentiment is endorsed by the organization, is wrong. For the article to say that moveon "withdrew a spot" is completely dishonest. It gives the impression they were ads that were paid for and/or actually run as political ads. They never made it past "contest entry".

To be fair, it appears that MoveOn.org started the Hitler comparisons. But okay, that's MoveOn.org for you.
I'm pretty sure they get Bush's end mixed up as well. According to every other source I've seen, this ad has not aired on television (contrary to the impression given by the article) or anywhere else outside of the campaign website.
What's with that Bush-Cheney '04 thing ? Are they alluding some kind of copresidency or just preparing Cheney's path to replacing Bush (officially that is) ?
Quote:It almost seems like it's geared towards those who see every attack on the President as absurd and treacherous.

Man, what the fuck?
The video makes Bush look like Hitler, and not the other way around...
You have clips of Hitler, then a picture of Bush in a red background holding his hand up - almost looking like a Nazi salute....TWICE!
Not to mention the speakers in the video are INSULTING Bush and people are APPLAUDING in the background...

I must say that was pretty confusing. Not only did they air mostly negative comments about bush (save for the end) from various nay sayers, but during the Hitler imagery, it showed him with his arm out in the ole Heil-Hitlar fashion. Then it transitioned out to Bush having his arm out in a could-be-mistaken-for-Heil-Hitlar fashion. I could have sworn that would have been a pro democrat commercial if it wasn't for the music doing the old bad guy good guy routine.
It's probably some sneaky underhanded MoveOn ad. Either that, or a Republican ad made up to look like that; at which point they go "WAH THOSE DEMOCRATS MADE UP A FAKE AD AND RUINED OUR CREDIBILITY" earning the respect of right-wing super-religious suicide bomber radio talk show hosts across America.
Hah, maybe GameDev did a /. on it [grin]
