Original Post
I was in a clothes shop today, and noticed that they were selling a shirt with the picture of that dude saying 'how about a nice warm cup of shut the f*ck up?' on it (clicky). Are they allowed to print that? I mean, they are making money from it and they dont own that picture, so I dont see how they could. FREAKIN RIP OFFS! I thought it came from SA origonally, but I couldnt find it on there. So yeah, what gives? How are they allowed to do this?
I saw a whole range of greetings cards that were basically well-known pics taken from the intaweb. It's annoying because talented designers are probably being passed over so that companies can make easy money.

Or maybe the images were licensed by the creators to these companies.

Some of the pictures have been floating around for years, how could anyone prove for certain where they first came from?
Chances are, that picture of the grunt was itself ripped off of some recruitment poster or something. If it was created special just for that 'stfu' image, I'll eat my shorts.
So figure out where it actually came from, and then get pissed. There's a good chance, the owner of that image doesn't care how people use it.

Isn't this the same message board where people will vehemently defend their right to download massive amounts of music for free? Since when do people around here care about artist's rights?

Is that so? I thought most people on this forum hate piracy, or is that just for software? Not want to change topic here, but I find your post interesting.
Quote:You raise a good point. It's clearly impossible that this board contains people on both sides, so what's going on here?
