Hello, i'm attempting to create a very simple tile-engine in a 3D enviroment. I'm wondering how I should store the tiles? Several tiles in one texture or each tile in a seperate texture? Is it very memory consuming to load the tiles into their own textures? Is it worth placing several tiles in one texture and then locking the vertex buffer and changing the texture coordinates?

Which ever is easiest for you to code, because it doesn't matter too much.

Speedwise, using one texture for multiple tiles is faster, but it is harder to manage and harder to modify a tile later. I recommend keeping them all separate because this type if engine really shouldn't be that slow for speed to be much of a problem. It is much easier to manage the seperate textures anyway in code.
