I would help test, but its in .rar format. I cant install new software on my machine here at work.

Consider putting up a .zip file

Awesome game so far, The fighting system is nice I like it. Although its very hard, I started a server with 10npc's and I got killed in about 3 seconds hehe. But otherwise really fun.

I tried to start a server and get a friend to join but couldnt, not sure why!

thanks,

Lokken: I have uploaded a zip file.

Bounce: Is your friend on the same network? did you try to have him host instead or join by ip? Are you behind a firewall? was it even able to list you as a host? have you tried to run two at once on the same computer?

I never had a change to test the networking... I am hosting a session at ip 192.168.1.103, see if anyone can actually see me. The command is /Listhost(192.168.1.103).

thanks again

What sort of Graphics hardware does it need?

The screenies look great and I like the idea of the concept a lot. If my GeForce2 MX can play it, I'll get a copy for home

Frankly I have no idea what grahics hardward it requires. But the screenshots are taken from windowed mode with 320x240 pixel backbuffer. I am using NVidia GeForce FX5200.

I thought it looked grainy - why the tiny size? The idea sounds cool - anyone remember the skeleton in Prince of Persia in about '96 - that rocked!

d000hg,
The default setting is 320x240 and windowed, (because I don't want to clash computers if something goes wrong in fullscreen), you can change the resolution to 1024x768 fullscreen, the icons and fonts will scale accordingly. To change the resolution you need to open Resrouce\Config.h, and change the content to:

// Config.FF
Version = "2004-06-30";
Windowed = 0;
WndWidth = 1024;
WndHeight= 768;
D3DWidth = 1024;
D3DHeight= 768;

Cool a zip file. I will play it here in a few min.

Just a note, noone will be able to join 192.168.1.103 since that is an internal IP. If youre using a router you will have to give them the routers WAN IP address and make sure you have whatever you need forwarded to the machine youre serving from.

I actually tried to play it but I got a 'memory cant be written' error right when I started it up. It may be an issue with this machine here at work. I will try it at home later on.

Lokken,
sorry, i am really weak on this area. It says that my WAN ip is 68.189.80.24, but how do I check whether I an forwarding it to me correctly? I will look into it.

It doesn't let you choose what port to use in the game, but the port number is 2602.

I found this website, is this what I am trying to do?

thanks for the notice I never thought about this.

Its a simple port forwarding setup. Since you know the port you will just need to log into your router (normally 192.168.1.1 on the network) and forward that port (2602) to your internal ip (192.168.1.103).

What kind of router are you using? Linksys?

Yes, I am using Linksys router, do i need to do anything with static ip, and DHCP, DMZ Host and static routing? there are so may options I don't know what are relevant.

thanks again

I took off a lot of options that I was trying, and when i do /listhost(68.189.82.24), i can see my own game.

In the linksys router setup page, it says that my WAN IP is 68.189.82.24, and the default gateway is 68.189.80.1. I guess the gateway address is not relevant (?)

When i do /listhost(68.189.82.24), I am albe to see my own game (running two applications at the same computer at once), but when I join, the server send the game data before the client was able to initialize the dynamic arrays. And I don't see anything rendered on the screen. I am going to make more confirmation messages to fix this.

Gateway is irrelevant.

If you want to host a game, you will give people your WAN IP address.

I believe port forwarding is under advanced. When you click on the forwarding tab you can specify a port number and an internal IP to forward it to, and the ability to enable it.

You shouldnt have to mess with DHCP, DMZ, or static IP settings.

The only relevant thing is forwarding your port to your IP to ensure you get the right traffic.

Although if you can do /listhost(68.189.82.24) you may be ok without specifying port forwarding. Have you tried to let anyone join your game by giving them that WAN ip?

yes, I am hosting again at 68.189.82.24.
I took off the settings related to DHCP, DMZ, or static IP, and it seemed to be ok.

There is a bug that an initialize message from the server about the number of PC and NPC is skipped, such that after you logged in, you will not see anything rendered except the text screens. I will fix this after coming back from the movies. :)

I will need to add a message from the client saying that the tables are initialized before the server starts sending game data. Right now, the messages are sent right after one another, I think they do not arrive in the same order.

graveyard: sorry, the link to control was broken, I have fixed it, and it is also here:
Controls,

I have one person logged in to my server at 68.189.82.24. If you are that person, would you mind telling me whether you also just see a blank screen?

Just to let you know, there is nothing going on in the server, I paused the npc AI, and i am not running any AI for my character. But when you log on, the server will display that your character (character name) has entered, and when you log out it says you have left.

I have found and fixed some bugs, a new zip file is available for download (2004-06-30-02)
