Tutorial Printing...

I was wondering if there was a technique that would allow me to condense several pages of a tutorial into one before printing? I know there are other factors such as the format of the tutorial, the software used to view it, the printer, etc. But is there any way of doing this that is independant of hardware, such as a generic Windows driver that creates PCL or PS files arranged in the desired way? I hope I'm making sense. The goal is to get 4 pages of a tutorial on one, therein saving paper, time, and space.

There are only two ways you're fitting four pages worth of material on one:

1. The font size of the text is changed to have a height and width about 50% of what they were originally(they may not sound like a lot, but believe me, it is).

2. You throw formatting out the window and run all the lines of text together with no spaces, tabs, returns, or otherwise. I doubt doing this would actually reduce it enough for four pages to fit on one.

Looking at those two options, it seems the first choice is the better one, since it allows the information to remain readable in format, even if you have to squint your eyes.
There are ways to already shrink the size of the font displayed on your web browser, so if you're simply wanting to conserve paper when printing off a tutorial, check into that. Another option would be to write a custom program that reads in the text from the file format your programming it for and convert it to a smaller sized text....though you could just copy & paste the text into Microsoft Word and let it do that for you. Hope this has been helpful.

Just print two-pages per page, if your driver suports that, then print on both sides, if your paper is thick enough.

Kudos for trying to save a few trees. I'm appalled how much some people just print every document etc they ever get their hands on.

My Brother 1440 will do 4-1 printing, I use that mode a LOT. It's resolution is solid enough that even with 4-1 I can still read the text easily. Ink jets might not have the crispness to do more than 2-1 though, so it really depends on your printer.

Oh yea, the 4-1 is a part of the driver, it's buried in my advanced settings on the print dialog.
My sig used to be, "God was my co-pilot but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him..."
But folks whinned and I had to change it.

Thanks for the replies.

My printer's driver can't handle it, but I was able to find my answer in a piece of software called CutePDF.

Basically, you print to a .pdf file and use Adobe to, in turn, print that. Does 4-on-1, exactly what I wanted.
