This may be a dumb idea, but do you think it would be fun to make programming more competetive? Like have a site or something where people can make a team or 1 person will go against another person or team and they will have 1 week or longer or shorter to program a program specified by someone (like to develop a fast algorith or something to do with AI or graphics or whatever is specified). It would be a head to head ladder/league play sort of thing with some rules and probably some provided templates so the teams/person can get straight to the coding or something and thats what makes it sort of different from contests. There would be some sort of finals or something for the top teams to compete against each other or something. Just a bored thought.

What i meant was a more graphical thing. Not just algorithms, but it would be judged by judges, not a computer running a program to test it (unless its to detect the speed or something).

Demoscene seems more of a display. What im talking about is for competition. Whatever demo or whatever that looks better, runs faster, and is not full of bugs/errors would win in a match against 2 people or 2 teams.

there's always the obfuscated code contest

one of the people on the project I'm on enters that, it's just a nightmare reading his code in general.

Like the many NeHe contests?
Newbie programmers think programming is hard.Amature programmers think programming is easy.Professional programmers know programming is hard.
