Hey, I am trying to do my first PONG clone as everyone else I suppose and I came up with the following problem: I've done til now only 2D programming and I started opengl a few days ago and did some of the tutorials on nehe's site but for my pong game I need something that wasn't answered in a tutorial: I want to use real 3d objects even though I don't really need them. But as we are in a 45° Viewport, the objects, even when I only move them on the x or y axis, are seen by the side (this is absolutely correct) but I asked myself if there is a ways to always see the objects from the front, like a dropdown view or something and that even when they are moved on the x,y axis, the viewing angle is still the same, I mean from the front. I hope somebody did understand me and that you can help me with my little problem. Thanks.

You are looking for ortho mode. There are some tutorials about it on NeHe. You need to use glOrtho function to setup your projection matrix.
You should never let your fears become the boundaries of your dreams.
