I am a 17 year old programmer. I started out in QBasic, programming short little text adventure games, and that was a long time ago. I have been studying c and c++ off and on since i was 11 years old. I started qbasic when i was 9. I would like a mentor. I have been in a while, and have yet a lot to learn. If anyone has some time they would be willing to give to a learning game programmer, ICQ me at 82782740 or email me at faet83@yahoo.com, or even reply :0 THanks Faet Juneau, Alaska

Imma, congrats for completing the vicious cycle. Now, when faet''s a saint I suppose he''ll have every right to diss a bunch of newbies too.

Faet, rather than a mentor, I''d highly recommend you hang out and post questions in the General Programming board. Mentoring takes a lot of time, so I''m not sure that you''ll get that many responses. However, most people seem to be pretty generous when you ask directed questions.

Why? It''s much better to have multiple people answer your questions through the board .

Hmm. First off how do I become a saint?

second off

you would think that people would help newbies, or even encourage them in their endeavors to learn computer game development. Why is it that everywhere you go, no matter where you go, theres always at least one person who likes to look down on newbies. I know that people go through this all the time, and that it IS indeed a cycle. But why reproduce it. Why not be different for a change. I just want to say that, when I become a experienced programmer and a game developer, I WILL help newbies, because they deserve it, and because they deserve respect like every other human being alive. No matter what status, age, sex, or level of skill in programming.

Just my spiel, I hope someone responds, but if not I understand

Hey, I''m a newbie, i always understand

To become a saint you have to post LOTS of crap(now you know why I''m a saintanist too)

Concerning mentors, I''m not very experienced either, so can''t help you, and I believe everyones too busy with their own work to be able to sacrifice their personal time, at the cost of their personal projects... Hard, but true

The best thing to do is get a good book and/or read a lot of online tutorials. It would be an unbelievable task for someone to explain everything step by step.

Then if you get stuck the board is here for specific questions.

You may get lucky and find someone to be a mentor though...I, personally, certainly am not experienced enough for such a task.
