http://www.bethsoft.com/news/pressrelease_071204.htm summary: Bethesda making Fallout 3 And there was just some thread recently about how interplay should stop messing around with MMOs and actually make Fallout 3. Now someone is gonna make it, and the best part is: the company making it isn't on the verge of bankruptcy!

Holy Crap!!!!!

The makers of Morrowind, are making Fallout 3!!!!!!

I think I just crapped my pants. It's like the makers of one of my favorite RPGs is making the sequel to one of my favorite RPGs!!!!!!

Would have been better if Black Isle or whoever had done it, but this can't be bad either.

OMG!!! I just realized, we will probably get to see a super detailed Fallout world ala Morrowind in stunning 3d!!!!

OMG Fallout in 3d!!!!!

Yep, I crapped my pants!

I am very very happy!!! Just don't cancel it!

Besthda is known to make really opened ended games, with tons of NPCs, items and quests. Not to mention usually 2 or 3 main story arcs in one game.

This is perfect for Fallout.

My only worry is if they can do a Sci-Fi game. Yea, they can.

Here is a link to an interview with Bethesda's PR head. It's looking like Bethesda plans on trying to make Fallout 3 a console game ( as well as a PC game). As far as the first person or isometric view question - it appears that Bethesda will be utilizing technology that they are currently developing.

It's a bit frustrating that already on the first day of the news release, it's looking like fans of the original Fallout games are likely to end up disappointed.

Their games are too open ended, sacrificing the storyline and real quests to repetitive random generated quests. Fallout had a great storyline, and a random generated quests system would be teh sukc.

If it was a first-person RPG I'd probably play it (it's not, right?)

I've never warmed to non-first person games...

The interview seems to imply that it actually will be a sort of first person game. Bethesda is trying to claim that it won't be Morrowind with guns. I'd expect that will be about as true as the Star Wars Galaxies creators claiming that SWG wouldn't be EverQuest in space.

That's exactly why I am dissapointed that Bethesda will make it. Fallout was supposed to be isometric (2d or 3d). If it will become a FPS it will suck.

Yeah, this could potentially be very bad. You see, the real thing that made Fallout great wasn't the type of battle system (it was great), the immersiveness (superb), or even the intuitive interface (it was).

No, what made the Fallout series great was the incredible plot and script writing. Never had I seen a game that had a serious and dark plotline woven so seamlessly with humor, and never was humor integrated with a game at just the right moment so that it seemed utterly appropriate. Most games have either too much humor, not enough, or horrible timing. Fallout was written like a skilled Bard sings, it knew when to keep it serious and when to let the crowd release.

So what I'm afraid of is that, if new writers get a hold of it, it's going to lose that spark that made it great. Without the well written plot(s) and such, it's just going to be another RPG.

Absolutly correct.
